While this study used a well-defined sample and controlled for many key variables, the results are not without limitations. First, the data was collected only from a single leading regulated operator and did not include any assessment of players’ behavior on unregulated sites or on ring-fenced poker rooms where users are restricted to playing against players within their country or jurisdiction. Additionally, the results of this study are based on a single analytic sample and therefore should be considered preliminary. Nevertheless, the findings are encouraging and indicate that the population of new poker players is growing rapidly. As the number of players continues to increase, it will be interesting to see if their demographics and mentalities continue to change over time.
